On January 10th, 2006 we had a special little guy born on our farm. He weighted just over 2 pounds. His mommy took one look at him and decided she didn't want him. He was born with an offset, parrot jaw. One of his waddles is high on his neck and the other is hooked to his good ear. He has one normal sized ear and one underdeveloped ear, which has no opening. |

We had a lot of other babies born that night and I kept shaking Eddie every few minutes to keep him breathing, finally I said, " I'm going to take him in the house where it is warm and he can die in peace." At 2 A.M. when we came in from the barn, he was still alive so I use a syringe and gave him some colostrum, he was very weak and I knew he would not make it through the night. At 6 A.M. the little guy was up and crying for breakfast. We kept him in the house for the first month, and he learned to use a litter box the first week. He learned to climb stairs, and boy did he love his bottle, actually loved on it each time he was finished eating, put his little nose against it and cuddled and nuzzled it |

I work in Special Education and so we decided to call him Special Ed. but he goes by Eddie and he is the hit with all the kids that come to visit. He loves to ride in a wagon and will pull it too. (He prefers to ride.) This summer he is going to start his halter training to pull a cart. We use him to show children that everyone has an important part to play in life, that we are all useful and can be productive, and that we don't have to be perfect and our differences make us special. |

July 7, 2007 Eddie had his first Harness and Cart lesson today. It took us quite awhile to figure out all the straps, but he was patient with us and stood great. For a first time he did a good job. Eddie is now almost 18 months old and weighs about 85 pounds, so we needed a light cart. We got this cart from AMERICAN CART AND HARNESS INC in Grants Pass, Oregon, it weights about 70 pounds. Next we needed a small driver. Thanks to a granddaughter we were all set, and it was a lot of fun.. |
